I’ve been a musician for over 20 years, but didn’t pick up a guitar until I was 15. Always learning and looking to develop my technique (whilst learning some favourite songs along the way!), I’ve taken the opportunity to impart my guitar knowledge to others whenever the opportunity arises. I am of course, DBS checked.

My journey

Between 2009 and 2014, I was based down in Brighton and studied a Level 3 Performing Musician Diploma which led on to an FD and BA (Hons) in Professional Musicianship. Hours of honing my craft, developing my technical and theory knowledge has helped me become the musician and tutor I am today. But what is knowledge without experience?

Since leaving the Brighton Institute of Modern Music in 2014, I embarked on a variety of projects including original bands and working function bands. It was during the mid 2010s that I decided to give teaching a go, and I have never looked back!

Things were slow at first, and I was visiting various students around Sussex who wanted to learn. Many of these lessons were improvised and tailored to the individual. However it helped me develop a good sense of different people’s wants and needs when it comes to learning guitar.

In 2017, after a brief stint living and working over in Australia, I began working as a Rock and Pop Music Teacher with Rocksteady Music School. These days were invaluable to me in not only being able to teach what I knew, but also in working with primary school kids in groups. To say this helped me develop as a teacher would be an understatement! It made me as a teacher!

After leaving Rocksteady Music School in 2020, I moved up to Swansea that Summer to begin a new role and a new life in South Wales. It’s here that I decided it was time to really make the most of my teaching career. Setting up Huw Lloyd-Williams Guitar Tuition, things have gone from strength to strength.

Since teaching in Swansea, I have had the pleasure of meeting over 50 different guitarists in just a few short years. Helping them improve their own technique, learn new skills or start playing from a complete beginner. My lessons have expanded to not just guitar, but bass, ukulele, songwriting and music theory.

Performing Musician

As I was improving my teaching chops in Sussex, I spent a lot of time playing in function bands at various weddings and functions, up and down the South Coast. Needless to say, this helped me become well versed as a performer and in a variety of musical styles.

Fast forward to my time in Swansea, and I met a few people to form a band from scratch. Touring the South Wales club circuit for the better part of two years.

In 2024, a brand new project, playing the greatest pop-punk and emo hits is beginning to emerge! Watch this space!

Songwriter

Between 2021 and 2023, I decided to add another string to my bow…

Although I considered myself a decent songwriter, I had much more to learn. Taking a Masters in Songwriting I now feel confident in being able to add songwriting to my list of teachable subjects!
